Unit 1 Exam Review Materials
Below are the student-created study guides from each group, except for two. Good luck. See you Tuesday.
Techniques:
Ambium stone: They used stone tools for chipping and hammering because it was all they had to carve the figure.
Anthropomorphic stele: Used materials (possibly sand) to rub the sandstone into a specific shape or form because this gave the statue a smoother texture.
Apollo 11 stones: Used charcoal and ochre to paint one the stones because the charcoal and ochre were the only materials could make marks on the stone at the time
Bushel with Ibex motifs: The clay it was made out of was hand-made and then painted on because it was the simplest and most effective at that time
Camelid Sacrum: used a sharp object to carve the bone to look like a dog because the bone had religious importance, and carving it into the shape of a canine face required sharp and sturdy tools. Also subtractive techniques were used in previous ventures.
Hall of Bulls: Used colored pigments from the earth to create different colors and contrast in the painting, along with outlined lines, making it seem that they were moving.
Jade Cong: Made of Jade material, as jade was valued greatly by Chinese (philosophically and materially) and was carved using different techniques such as cutting with a bow and subbing sand for shape and detail.
Horned woman: colored minerals were used to make the color and figure of the painting, because that was what colored pigments they had at that time.
Stonehenge: Sandstone that was possibly moved using mud ropes that would aid in construction. They used these materials to more easily move the stones.
Terra Cotta: Terra Cotta material of ceramic, making geometric patterns on the stone using sharp carving tools. They used it because it’s what they had at that time, and it was the easiest or most efficient way to do it.
Tlatilco: Ceramic that was painted on, and that had a comb like tool used on the fire clay. They did this because that’s how they transcribed their history to date.
